In Moray, we had access to skilled people that could join the team as it grew. There are synergies between some of the disciplines in the oil and gas industry and aerospace skills held by many ex-RAF Kinloss and Lossiemouth personnel who live in the area.

Aerial picture of Arnish Fabrication Yard - the key manufacturing and assembly facility for the renewable energy sector in the Western Isles

ARNISH Fabrication Yard

Arnish is located four miles from the town of Stornoway in the Isle of Lewis and is home to one of Scotland’s key renewable energy manufacturing sites.

Since taking over the lease of 119 acres of land from the Stornoway Trust in 1999, we have invested £23m in upgrading and developing the site. This investment has led to Arnish now being a prime location for the renewable energy sector offering excellent opportunities for national and international investments in both the renewable energy and oil and gas sectors.

The site provides a range of fully serviced plots with deep water and heavy load quay facilities with great connectivity and sea and air links. The yard is established as an efficient facility to produce pipes, piles, monopiles and devices for the energy industry. Plans are underway to extend the quay at Arnish, which currently has a water depth of 6.5m, by providing improved facilities for ships over 156m in length.

There are currently two tenants at the park, Bakkafrost and Hebridean Seaweed.
