Animal bioscience and aquaculture

Supporting animal and fish health in our region

ANIMAL BIOSCIENCE AND AQUACULTURE

There's a breadth of work in animal health across the Highlands and Islands, from academia, public sector and industry, with expertise ranging from aquaculture (marine and freshwater) to farm and domestic animals.

In little more than 40 years aquaculture has developed from a handful of research projects into an industry that provides Scotland’s highest value food product – farmed salmon.

Scotland's Rural College (SRUC), the Scottish Association for Marine Science and the Rivers and Lochs Institute at the University of the Highlands and Islands are only three examples of the academic expertise that is present in our region.

New technologies and innovations are revolutionising the aquaculture, animal health and agriculture sector. Find out more about the sector in the Highlands and Islands (and Scotland) in this report from SEFARI.
