HIE employee awarded marine energy award

Published: 13/06/2023

HIE’s senior development manager, Norma Hogan, won a prestigious marine power award.

The prize is awarded to an individual in recognition of outstanding individual achievement in the marine renewable energy sector.

Norma is based in Stornoway, Isle of Lewis and won the prize for her continuing and unrelenting work in the field including supporting decision-making and grant-funding requests across the Highlands and Islands. Her role covers infrastructure, supply-chain, specific technology, and project development.

Norma said: “I am very honoured and humbled to have won the 2023 Lennard-Senior Prize, a prize voted by my peers within the marine sector.

“Working in the sector for over 15, years I have seen many changes and the commitment from developers, academia and supply chain companies working together is still as strong, if not stronger, than it ever has been. I've been fortunate to work with many of them over the years.

“If we didn't work together and support each other, the sector would not be where it is now. I'm also very lucky to be part of an incredible team here at HIE I’d like to thank everybody who voted for me. The tide is turning for wave and tidal, not only here in Scotland, but the UK, Europe and worldwide.”

The Lennard Senior Memorial Prize has been awarded annually since 2011 in memory of two of the original members of the Society for Underwater Technology (SUT)’s Marine Renewable Energies Committee (MREC) – Don Lennard and Gordon Senior.

The prize is nominated and voted for by the members of the MREC and recognises outstanding individual achievement in the field of marine renewable energy.

Norma was presented with her award at the 2023 All-Energy conference in Glasgow in May.
